Scavolini Pesaro have revealed that their sharpshooting forward Dusan Sakota suffered a life-threatening injury in the club's game against Banca Tercas Teramo over the weekend.
Sakota received a blow to the stomach and needed an operation that lasted five hours to repair damage to his duodenum.
The club said in a statement: "For him the season is over.
"For the definite recovery time, he will have to wait under the post-operation.
"The club thanks the medical staff and alongside the staff and the team are close to Dusan and wish him a speedy recovery."
Sakota, who just turned 24, is Serbian but has a Greek passport.
He averaged better than 11 points per game this season in the Lega A for Pesaro.
The injury means that he will miss out this weekend when Scavolini travel to Germany to play in the EuroChallenge Final Four.
Sakota averaged 10.4 points in 12 EuroChallenge games.
BG Göttingen Thump Alba Berlin
Germany's Newcomer of the Year from America, rookie Taylor Rochestie, had 19 points to fire BG Göttingen to an 81-74 triumph over Alba Berlin over the weekend.
The Violets trailed entering the last quarter but outscored Alba 33-21 over the last 10 minutes.
Göttingen, the hosts of the EuroChallenge Final Four, now trail EWE Baskets Oldenburg by two points in Germany's top flight.
