Denmark Clinch Division C Title

A balanced team effort lifted Denmark to a convincing triumph over Andorra in the Final of the European Championship Division C 2010.

5 players scored in double figures as Denmark were already leading by over thirty before taking a 87-69 win to lift the trophy.

Denmark were red hot from outside, making 17 of 28 three pointers making up for their mediocre 40% inside scoring.

Xavier Galera and Jorge Olcina opened the game with two three pointers and gave Andorra hope to upset the favourites from Denmark who had competed in Division B until last year before choosing to play in Division C in a bold move in order to give more resources to their youth programme.

But Denmark hit back with a 8-0 run themselves and took control right away.

At 18-12 for Denmark late in the first quarter things looked set for an easy win for the northern Europeans.

But Andorra went on an unbelievable 10-0 run sparked by 5 points of Galera and a buzzer beating three pointer by Oriol Fenrandez.

The second quarter went up and down for both teams with neither being able to claim a bigger lead until the Danes went up by double digits at 42-32 with three minutes to play until half-time.

With Andorra unable to score consistently after that Denmark further extended the lead, fueled by three pointers of Frederic and Chris Nielsen and finished the first half at 51-35.

Those who thought that Andorra would try to fight back after the break were disappointed as they had to watch Denmark opening the second half with a 13-0 run that put all Andorra hopes to an end.

The biggest lead of the game came at 70-39 after Andreas Jacobsen hit a three pointer.

Denmark cruised the rest of the way with Denmark coach Peter Hoffman giving plenty of playing time to all his players and Andorra able to cut the lead back to about 20 points.

Jakobsen led Denmark with 16 points and Rasmus Soeby contributed 15.

Andorra, who had their best scorer in Galera outrebounded the Danes 33-32 but hurt their chances with 21 turnovers.
