09 August 2008

Italy earned a spot in the 5-6 classification game after a 71-56 win over France.

The Italians will take on Montenegro with high hopes to finish fifth, while France will play Ukraine in a battle on the seventh spot.

Pietro Aradori led Italy with 24 points and Giacomo Eliantonio added 11 with three hits from long range.

Kim Tillie led France with 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks and Edwin Jackson added 12.

After one quarter Italy took a 17-15 lead, and it was the following period which made the first major difference.

Great aggressive defense put the French offense on mute, while several long range hits by the Italian were grouped together to make it 31-21 after one half.

Aradori's pocket filled with points and rebounds and his three pointer made it 43-29 after 27 minutes.

Tillie's talent shone but France didn't find the way to come back and make their offensive game effective to sting Italy's gap.

Giancarlo Ferrero hit from long range to make it 66-46 before the French side cut some of the margin in the last minutes.
