Russian star Maria Stepanova of BC Volgaburmash Samara was presented with the first-ever FIBA Europe Women's Player of the Year award during the inaugural EuroLeague Women All-Star game in Pecs, Hungary.

In the opening minutes of the game, play was stopped. FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos and Secretary General Nar Zanolin came on to the court and jointly presented Stepanova with the 2005 FIBA Europe Women's Player of the Year trophy.

"I'm very happy to have this trophy," Stepanova said.

"This trophy represents my efforts for the whole season."

Stepanova displayed her new trophy and received a nice ovation from the crowd.

The 202-cm center was selected as the 2005 Player of the Year based on a vote from international media.
