The Serbian U20 women's team have started their preparations for the upcoming European Championship in Samsun, Turkey.

Head coach Radenko Varagic nominated 17 players in his preliminary roster, with eight players returning from last year's squad that finished in 11th place at the U20 European Championship Women in Debrecen.

The list includes Ivana Brajkovic, who was the team's leading rebounder in last year's campaign, and ‘94-born Natasa Kovacevic and Aleksandra Stanacev, who led Serbia to a bronze medal at last summer's U18 European Championship Women.

On Sunday, 13 players reported to the first stage of training camp, with Emese Vida, Milica Toskovic, Tamara Miskovic and Stanacev, who is recovering from a slight injury, set to join the team at a later stage.

"We have more than five weeks to work to a high standard, which is enough to prepare efficiently, reach our desired form and await the championship fully prepared," Varagic said.

"We will play eight test games which will help us to figure out the best possible roster for Turkey.

"It is too early to talk about ambitions, but our primary goal is to advance from the First Round and take it from there," he concluded.

Serbia will play their first test games from 11-13 June, facing their age peers from Greece three times, before heading to Italy for two friendlies against the home team on 17 and 18 June.

The team will conclude their preparations with three more games against Sweden from 28-30 June.

The U20 European Championship Women will be held from 4-14 July, with Serbia being drawn in First Round Group A with Ukraine, the Netherlands and Belarus.
