Pipan To Remain In Charge Of Poland

06 February 2012

Ales Pipan (Head Coach - Slovenia)
Ales Pipan will stay at the helm of the Polish national team until EuroBasket 2013 in his native Slovenia, should Poland clinch qualification

Ales Pipan has signed a new two-year contract to lead Poland's national team.

The Slovenian took the reins before last year's EuroBasket and led the side to a couple of wins in Lithuania without big man Marcin Gortat, but the Poles missed a chance to advance when Great Britain beat them in their last First Round game.

Pipan will coach Poland against Finland, Switzerland, Albania and Belgium in the EuroBasket 2013 Qualification Round.

Their first game will be on 15 August at home to the Belgians.

The top two sides from each of the six groups and the four best third-place teams will advance to the EuroBasket in Slovenia.

Pipan's extension was reported on the Slovenian Basketball Federation website.

He previously coached Slovenia's national team and is currently at the helm of Zadar in Croatia.
