Although their goal coming into the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women was to be among the top four, the Netherlands were happy after earning fifth place at the expense of Poland, 80-62.
They outrebounded and outscores the Polish behind three excellent individual performances by Richelle van der Keijl, Kourtney Treffers and Loyce Bettonvil, three Dutch players who posted a double-double in points and rebounds.
Van der Keijl totaled 18 points and 10 rebounds, Treffers added 13 and 10 while Bettonvil finished with 12 and 12.
The Dutch team grabbed 54 boards to Poland's 33, and finished with a 49.3 shooting percentage from the field to only 31.9 of their opponents.
Dominika Miloszewska and Katarina Wilk were the only Polish players to score in double figures, with 11 points each, and Magdalena Wojdalska contributed with nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
After defeating Italy in the last game of the Qualifying Round to earn their place in the Quarter-Finals, the Dutch were crashed by Spain and had to settle for the Classification Round for 5th to 8th place.
"It was difficult for us to motivate the players after that loss from Spain, but we are happy that we did it, and we managed to get the fifth place," said the Netherlands head coach, Remy De Wit.
"We were coming to the tournament thinking about a place in the top four, but we had a tough competition, and we are happy with what we achieved," he concluded.
