U16 WOMEN 3RD PLACE GAME

Italy have been the welcoming hosts of the U16 European Championship for Women. On Sunday, they will hope to reward their loyal supporters with a bronze medal.

The play-off for third place will feature two teams who must recover from the disappointment of missing out on the final 24 hours earlier.

For the first half for their semi-final at least, Turkey provided Spain with its sternest examination of the tournament before losing 79-62.

While the Italians, also the underdogs, remained in contention for 32 minutes before Belgium powered away to a 54-43 victory despite the noisy backing of the good folk of Cagliari.

The classification tie will also be a re-match. In the second round of the competition, Elisa Penna had a statistical surge, grabbing 22 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals as Renato Nani's side rolled past the Turks 67-49.

History, however, counts for little. And with just one spot available on the podium, both teams have one last opportunity to claim a souvenir for their efforts.
