Abdelkader Named MVP

Hind Ben Abdelkader emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the European U16 Championships for Women in Cagliari.

The 16-year-old, who led her country to the final where they lost to Spain, gained the most votes in a poll among the tournament's 16 coaches.

"She was excellent," praised Belgian coach Arvid Diels. "Spain had a lot of players who contributed but there were games where Hind won it for us almost by herself. That's why she won the MVP."

Champions Spain had two players joining the Belgian in the All-Tournament Five with Leticia Romero and Maria Arrojo earning recognition.

While the star quintet was rounded out by Italian forward Cecilia Zandalasini and Turkey centre Hulya Coklar who were major factors in their teams' respective runs to the semi-finals.

The Fair Play Award went to the medical staff for the Russian team who assisted at the scene of a car accident during their stay in Sardinia.
