For Poles, Finns It's 'Arrivederci'

Croatia will remain in Division A of the U16 European Championship for Women after winning their relegation battle with Poland in Sardinia.

Centre Antonija Chiabov had a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds in the 78-65 victory while point guard Inja Butina added a game-high 23 points to ensure that their side took the second survivors spot on the head to head tie-breaker, condemning the Poles to play in Division B next summer.

Poland, requiring victory to stay up, led at the end of the first quarter but Croatia made a decisive move in the second, out-scoring their opponents 23-6. And they were able to control the second half and finish the tournament on a high.

Serbia, led by 22 points from the championships' top scorer Sanja Mandic, topped the relegation play-offs and finished in 13th place overall after a 72-58 win over Finland, who will join Poland in the second tier in 2012.
