Division B Round-Up: Hungary Faces Slovenia In Final


Hungary and Slovenia will play in the final of the U18 European Championship Women Division B in Eilat on Sunday.

Slovenia sprung a surprise by edging tournament hosts Israel 67-61.

Israel trailed 40-29 early in the third quarter but cut the deficit to three (60-57) with five minutes left to play.

Slovenia outscored 7-4 the rest of the way to seal the win.

Nika Baric of Slovenia poured in a game-high 22 points and dished out seven assists while teammate Tjasa Gortnar pulled down an impressive 22 rebounds.

Slovenia out-rebounded Israel 46-35.

6. Svenja Brunckhorst (Germany)
Svenja Brunckhorst had 12 pts and 6 rbs going with 4 asts but fell short on the final shot

Shira Shecht converted Israel's only three-ball from nine attempts.

Slovenia finished a respectable seven of 19 (36.8%) from long range.

Earlier in the day, Hungary needed overtime to beat Germany 72-70.

With the game knotted at 70-70 with 1:03 remaining, Alma Nemeth made two free throws to give Hungary the lead.

Germany's Svenja Brunckhorst missed a three-pointer late on and Hungary prevailed.

Finja Schaake had a game-high 21 point in defeat while Réka Bálint came up strong for the Hungarians with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Hungary out-rebounded Germany 49-38.
