Greece Blow Big Lead But Defeat Austria


Greece, Belgium and Slovakia are still unbeaten after the first two days of the U20 European Championship Division B in Ohrid.

Greece jumped out to a 16-5 lead and went in front by 20 points but ended up scraping a 44-41 Group A win over Austria.

Vaia Merisioti had 11 points for Greece while Julia Köppl finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Austria.

Also in Group A, the Belgians got 18 points from Amandine Halin and prevailed 64-56 over Portugal.

Joana Bernardeco scored 22 points in defeat.

Bettina Bozoki poured in 14 points as Hungary won 63-47 over Great Britain in the pool's other game.

Portugal and Hungary are each 1-1 while the Brits and Austrians are 0-2.

In Group B, Slovakia improved to 2-0 with an 88-78 win over the Netherlands.

Klaudia Lukacovicov√° scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Slovakians while Rianne de Roos finished with 14 points and 11 boards for the Dutch (0-2).

Israel (1-1) defeated hosts F.Y.R. of Macedonia 76-60 in the other Group B game.

Dana Yahalomi finished with a game-high 22 points for the Israelis while Jelena Antik scored 16 and corralled 18 boards for the hosts.

Romania were idle on Tuesday.
