Strubbe Late Show Denies Britain

Anne-Sophie Strubbe hit a three-pointer with just three seconds remaining to lift unbeaten Belgium past Great Britain at the U20 European Championship Women 2009 Division B in Ohrid.

The Brits looked to be closing in on victory in Group A after Mary Durojaye made a pair of free-throws for a 65-61 lead just 38 seconds from the end.

Belgium's Kim Mestdagh connected from behind the arc to close the gap to one with 23 seconds to go, and after Harriett Yea made just one of two at the stripe for a 66-64 British advantage, Strubbe struck with the game-winner.

Mestdagh had a game-high 25 points for Belgium, who improved to 4-0.

Durojaye scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Britain, who are now 1-3.

Also in Group A, Catarina Caldeira tallied 17 points as Portugal (2-2) prevailed 60-54 over Greece (2-2).

Tijana Krivacevic poured in 13 points and hauled in nine boards as Hungary (3-1) defeated Austria (0-4), 68-52.

In Group B, the Netherlands improved to 2-2 after a 99-68 drubbing of Israel (1-2).

Rianne de Roos scored 28 points and corralled 11 rebounds for the Dutch.

Romania (2-1) thrashed hosts F.Y.R. of Macedonia 93-76. Ramona Tarta and Claudia Pop each poured in 22 points. Ana Tanturovska had a game-high 23 points for the Macedonians (0-3).
