Dutch Treat

Both the Netherlands and the Czech Republic had secured promotion to Division A at the U20 European Championship Men, Division B in Skopje, but on Sunday the two met to see who would go home with a gold medal around their necks.

The Czech Republic's David Jelinek hit two free throws with 12 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but that extra period belonged to the Dutch.

They outscored their opponents 17-6 in the overtime with the game turning on a Hieronymus Van Der List jumper, steal and three-point basket with just over a minute and a half remaining.

It was the second gold medal this summer for the Netherlands whose women's team won the U20 European Championship Women, Division B earlier in the summer.

Meanwhile Poland used a 55% shooting night to crush Sweden 96-66 to take home the bronze medal.

Six Poles scored in double figures including Mateusz Kostrzewski who poured in 20 points on 4 of 5 shooting from behind the three-point line.

Sweden trailed just 55-51 half way through the third quarter before an 11-0 Poland run put the game away.
