Montenegro's men caused a stir in European basketball when the under-20 team won promotion last year to Division A.

Fewer fans know that the under-20 women managed the same feat, defeating Luthuania on their home court to take home a gold medal.

The women's senior team play in EuroBasket Division B games later this year, and Basketball World News' Luka Maselj spoke to the coach of Montenegro, Miodrag Baletic, for FIBA Europe.

FIBA Europe: Montenegro are in Division B and were recently drawn in Group A with Slovenia, Switzerland, Iceland, Austria and Ireland. What are your feelings about the draw?

Miodrag Baletic: "At the moment, I can't tell you much about that, because I still have a lot of research to do in the coming days. What I can tell you is that we will need to work hard - much harder than many other teams - in the coming months and years to achieve our goals. We have a limited number of players at the moment and we will have to work hard to 'produce' new players, new national team players that will help us get higher in the basketball rankings."

FIBA Europe: Do you have a plan that must be executed in the coming months?

Miodrag Baletic: "We have already talked about this inside the basketball association. We have agreed that nothing will happen by itself - we will have to give it a lot of effort. We have agreed to make a plan that will determine what our priorities in the coming months will be."

FIBA Europe: Is it already known which players will play for the national team?

Miodrag Baletic: "We have no problems with that because we have already stated that we will only count on players that will show their good will to play for the national team. It is true that we are limited in numbers - we only have around 20 players that are able to play for the national team - but we will give everything we can for our country when the games will come."

FIBA Europe: You are the first women's national team coach in the history of Montenegro. What does that mean to you?

Miodrag Baletic: "I am an ethnic Montenegrin and obviously it's a big honor for me. I am very happy that Montenegro reached its status as an independent country. I love my country, I love my job and I will do everything that is in my power to take us as high as possible in basketball."
