Montenegro stormed into EuroBasket Division A with an 88-71 victory at home over Sweden on Wednesday night in the Promotion Round play-offs. The win secured a 158-121 triumph on aggregate for Dusko Vujosevic's team. Panathinaikos center Nikola Pekovic had 17 points to lead a balanced Montenegrin attack while Martin Ringström also poured in 17 for the Swedes. Leading by just three at half-time, Montenegro outscored the Scandinavians 24-10 in the third quarter to take command for good. Omar Cook led a strong defensive effort by coming up with three of Montenegro's 10 steals. He also had 10 points and four assists. Montenegro out-rebounded Sweden 34-27. The Montenegrins had won the first leg in Sweden, 70-50. |
