Germany U20 Fight Back To Beat Croatia

27 June 2008

Germany hit back from a 14-point deficit at half-time to beat Croatia in a warm-up tournament in Poland for the U20 European Championship for Men Division B in Romania.

Emir Mutapcic's men had an awful start and trailed 25-11 by the end of the first quarter and were still behind 41-27 at half-time.

The Germans turned on the style over the next 10 minutes, though, outscoring Croatia 32-10 for an eight-point lead and they pressed home the advantage in the fourth.

"After the bad start in the first quarter, we continued to believe in ourselves and even turned the game around," Mutapcic said.

"That was important for our morale."

Oskar Fassler, a member of last year's German team that finished fourth in the U20 European Championship Division B, had 15 points to pace Mutapcic's team.

Germany are in Division B, Group B this summer with Ireland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Azerbaijan.
