Vladimir Dasic led the winning side with 26 points and nine rebounds and Nemanja Vranjes added 17.
Pietro Aradori led Italy with 19 points.
Italy was the first to take control of the game leading 11-6 but Dasic was everywhere as usual.
He collected 14 first quarter points on the way to an 18-16 lead for his team.
When the rest of Montenegro started contributing the gap extended to ten, 33-23, and Vranjes with five quick points set the half time score on 47-29.
Italy found themselves down by more than 20 already in the third, as Montenegro made the most of their last minutes in the competition.
Dasic continued to collect points, trying to secure his #1 spot in the scorer standings here, and Italy only cut some of the lead in the closing minutes.
