Greece clinched first place in Group A of the U18 European Championship for Women Division B in Skopje, FYR Macedonia, with a 60-47 triumph over Germany. In a contest between two undefeated sides on Sunday, Angeliki Nikolopoulou and Aikaterini Kontali each scored 15 points for the Greeks. Austria thrashed Switzerland 67-48 to finish third in the group. In Group B, Slovenia finished top after prevailing 61-52 over Estonia. Ines Kerin had 17 points for the winners. Both sides finished with 3-1 marks. Portugal prevailed over Israel 75-59 to come in third. The Netherlands (4-0) completed an unbeaten run to finish top of Group C with a 76-67 victory over Finland. Second-place Hungary won 69-56 over Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Bosnians finished third on goal differential ahead of Finland and Denmark, with all three sides sporting 1-3 records. Latvia finished first in Group D by winning their battle of unbeatens against Belgium 76-64. The Latvians (4-0) got 29 points from Sabine Niedola. Ireland came in third after thumping England 65-48. Greece and Slovenia go into the next phase (Qualifying Round for First to Eight Place) in Group E with 1-0 records by virtue of their first-place finishes. Estonia and Germany (both 0-1) are in the same group. Latvia and the Dutch also start with 1-0 marks in Group F, and they will be joined by Hungary and Belgium (both 0-1). |
