Brits' Yea Has Steady Diet Of Summer Hoops

01 July 2008

Great Britain starlet Harriet Yea will be eating, drinking and sleeping basketball this summer.

Having just wrapped up her first year at Welsh outfit Rhondda Rebels, Yea is now focused on trying to help the British win promotion at the U20 European Championship for Women Division B in Poland.

She will then try to make the grade with the senior team that is competing in Division A.

"To be in the senior women's squad is a real achievement for me," she said.

"I am very excited at the thought of hopefully getting my first cap for Great Britain at 19. I'm looking forward to playing with very experienced players who I am sure I will learn a lot from over the summer."

First things first, though.

Yea and her younger teammates will take on Romania on July 12 in Poznan before facing Ireland, Hungary and Slovakia.

Great Britain Under-20 preliminary squad: Dominique Allen, Rose Anderson, Ziana Bofenda, Mairi Buchan, Leah Dehaan, Kara Dougall, Ella Joins, Kashmere Joseph, Mrashi Karumba, Emma MacReady, Yemi Oyefuwa, Verity Peets, Annie Rowan, Cristal Turner, Harriet Yea.
