Hungary has a chance to grab fifth place at the Termosteps U16 European Championship Women after knocking off Russia 53-45. Bettina Baksa scored 19 points to lead the way for Hungary, who finished the Qualifying Round Group F in fourth place with a 2-3 record.
Melinda Késöi added 11 points for Judit Balogh's team.
Yulia Stepanova paced Russia with 10 points and eight rebounds while Anastasia Arzina added eight points and 12 rebounds. Tatiana Makarycheva's Russian team dropped to 1-4 in the group.

Hungary pulled ahead first at 12-7 thanks to two triples from Baksa. But Arzina scored two baskets as Russia answered with a 10-1 run and led 17-15 after one period. Anna Mansaré's three-pointer put Hungary back ahead to start the second. Russia regained the lead only to see Enikö Szabó's triple give Hungary back the lead. But Ekaterina Fedorenkova came off the bench to score and send Russia into intermission on top 28-25.
Makarycheva's Russians increased the lead to 32-27 before Késöi's three-pointer sparked an 8-0 run and Baksa helped give Hungary a 40-35 cushion after three periods. Balogh's Hungarians held Russia to just one basket in an 8-3 push to open a 10-point gap 48-38 with four minutes left. Arzina knocked down a triple and Stepanova's basket brought Russia to within 48-45 with two minutes to play. But Hungary's defense stepped up one last time and scored the final five points of the game.
