Swedes Stay Undefeated In Division B


Sweden are flying high at the top of Group D at the U16 European Championship for Men Division B in Sarajevo after a 79-62 triumph over FYR Macedonia.

The success was the fourth in as many games for the Swedes.

The Scandinavian team jumped out to a 29-15 advantage and used that great start as a launchpad for victory.

Tuan Nguyen had 17 points to lead Sweden.

Portugal prevailed for the first time in the tournament with a 66-57 victory over winless Ireland.

Bruno Cunha poured in 18 points and hauled in 11 rebounds while also blocking two shots and coming up with two steals for the Portuguese.

Finland (3-1) were idle.

Germany are showing no signs of slowing down in Group A.

They rolled to a fifth consecutive victory, 96-56 over Slovakia.

Belarus claimed a 66-51 win over Belgium to leave both sides with 3-2 marks and Estonia thrashed Luxembourg 89-47.

Tournament hosts Bosnia-Herzegovina got 22 points from Goran Vucic and prevailed 92-66 over the Netherlands. The Bosnians are 4-1 and trail only Montenegro in Group B after they remained undefeated with a 104-86 demolition of Austria.

Denmark went into a deep freeze against Iceland, falling 76-52.

The Danes made just three of 18 (16.7%) from long range and shot 15 of 39 (38.5%) inside the arc.

Haukur Pálsson poured in 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Iceland.

Slovenia are also still undefeated at 5-0 after a 76-57 win over Cyprus in Group D.

Bulgaria improved to 4-1 with an 89-67 success against Romania and Switzerland edged a close encounter against England 65-63.
