Ukraine And Belgium Into Final

Ukraine and Belgium will meet tonight in the finals of the UMCOR U18 European Championship Men, Division B taking place in Sofia.

Both participants booked their place with impressive wins.

Ukraine withstood an early push from Poland who led 18-5 with 3:19 left in the first quarter on the strength of seven points from Tomasz Snieg.

But the Ukrainians pushed back and trailed only by nine at the end of the quarter thanks to a pair of three-pointers from Denys Lukashov and Igor Dranchenko.

From there the eastern Europeans had the better of the play, holding their opponents without a field goal for the first six minutes of the second period.

They outscored Poland 22-7 and led 38-32 going into the break, going on to a 77-56 win.

Ukraine’s opponent in the final will be Belgium after they scored an impressive win over Montenegro 64-56.

Like Poland the Montenegrins led early but could not protect the lead.

The Belgians dominated the middle quarters with partial scores of 23-8 and 19-11 in their favor giving them a big lead heading into the final frame.

Jean Marc Mwema led the way for Belgium with 22 points and 15 rebounds, hitting seven of 10 shots from the field.
