Tchatchouang Named MVP

Diandra Tchatchouang was named Most Valuable Player of the Termosteps U16 European Championship Women after leading France to the gold medal with a 60-57 victory over Spain.

Tchatchouang collected 17 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks in the final.

She averaged 14.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.4 blocks over eight games during the tournament.

"She had a lot of pressure because I knew she was a leader and she had to play like a leader. She's very strong and it was hard to take all the pressure on her shoulders.

But she did it," said France coach Gregory Halin. "She was tired but she was still there at the end. It was incredible."

Tchatchouang, who also led France in scoring at the UMCOR U18 European Championship Women in Novi Sad earlier this summer, received the most MVP votes from the U16 tournament coaches and headed the U16 All-Tournament.

The other four members were:
Leonor Rodriguez, Spain
Allison Vernerey, France
Alexandra Tarasova, Russia
Olesya Malashenko, Ukraine

Tarasova was also awarded the Fair Play award.
