Slovenia: Zrinski Sees Progress Despite Defeats

14 August 2007
Slovenia's women claimed a single victory from three games at the international tournament in Pernik, Bulgaria.

Preparing for the additional qualifying round for the EuroBasket Women which tips off on September 1, coach Boris Zrinski watched his players fall 85-73 to Finland and 60-56 to Bulgaria but beat Romania, 69-60.

The event followed the Baltic Cup, a tournament which saw the Slovenians beat Estonia and Sweden before losing to Latvia in the final.

"We showed better form as the tournament went on," Zrinski said. "In the last game against Bulgaria, the first half was our best of the whole tournament.

"We also trained very well in Bulgaria, and got some valuable information about the Finnish team."

The Finns are Slovenia's first opponents in the additional qualifying round.

"Now we are travelling to Kranjska Gora (Slovenia)," Zrinski said.

"During our stay there, we will go to Bormio (Italy) to play two games against the Italian team.

"In our practices, we will focus on tactics and shooting."

The bad news for Slovenia is that star player Daliborka Jokic is unavailable due to injury.
