Spain coach Pepu Hernandez will continue to lead the team through next year's Olympic Games, the Spanish Basketball Federation has confirmed.

EuroBasket hosts and favourites Spain were upset by Russia in the gold medal game on Sunday night and Hernandez said he was unsure if he would be allowed to remain in charge.

But the FEB said in a statement on Tuesday: "The Federation, and especially its president (Jose Luis Saez), are extremely satisfied with the work done by Jose Vicente (Pepu) Hernandez, and by the technical team during the EuroBasket which resulted in a silver medal.

"Hernandez has a contract with the Spanish Federation and it is the desire of the FEB and of its president that in the next Olympic Games, the national team under him will continue to bring joy and success for basketball, and for Spanish sport as a whole."

The EuroBasket final had 5.37 million television viewers in Spain, making it the most watched game on television in the history of Spanish basketball.

The game also had more viewers than any other programme in Spain last week.

The title game attracted a 31.3% view share.

That means 31.3% of people actually watching television at that time were watching the game.
