Depleted Slovakia Prepare For Qualifiers

24 July 2007

Slovakia coach Vladimir Karnay is hopeful that conditions are right for his depleted squad ahead of the EuroBasket Women additional qualifiers.

Slovakia are looking to reach the EuroBasket Women, which is being held in Italy between September 24 and October 7, and are in the midst of a 10-day training camp.

Karnay is already resigned to being without three first-choice players for the additional qualifiers, which start with a trip to Ukraine on September 1.

"We have started with physical preparation," he said.

"The girls need to charge their batteries after their vacation. I am fully satisfied with the conditions which we found here, in Spisska Stara Ves.

"We sent invitations for this training camp to Andrea Kuklova and Renata Hirakova (pictured) as well, but they decided not to join the team.

"Slavka Frniakova will not play this qualification because of problems with her knees.

"Lucia Laskova and Viera Libicova should come to the next training camp in Ruzomberok, and Silvia Janostinova was excused because of an injury."

Slovakia will also face Sweden in Group C.
