Spain made sure of their place in the semi-finals of the OSTCHEM U20 European Championship Women with a 69-46 defeat of Germany on Thursday.

The two sides had an identical 1-1 record heading into the clash but the Spanish quickly seized the initiative by finishing the first quarter with a 27-11 advantage.

Germany marginally trimmed their deficit to 37-23 at half-time but a comeback never looked likely.

Silvia Dominguez led a balanced attack with 18 points with Blanca Marcos (15), Maria Pina (13) and Anna Cruz (13 and seven rebounds) all making valuable contributions.

Margret Skuballa poured in 17 points for Germany but it proved in vain.

Defending champions France finished top of Group E despite a 72-65 defeat to Bulgaria.

The French had no answer to Radostina Slavova, who scored 32 points and pulled down five rebounds.

Center Isabelle Yacoubou top-scored for France with 16 points on eight-of-nine shooting.
