MVP Award Bittersweet For Petrovic

30.07.2006

Sonja Petrovic may have been elected tournament MVP at the Umcor U18 European Championship, but she would much rather have had the chance to wear the gold medal around her neck.

Petrovic was superb throughout the competition, but could not lead her side to victory over Spain in Sunday's final.

"It is nice to be MVP but I don't feel good. I would be happy to be MVP if we had won the gold medal," said Petrovic who finished the tournament with averages of 14.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.

Despite the individual award, she was quick to credit her teammates.

"We are like a family, we do laugh together, we cry together, we do everything together. So my MVP award is like their MVP award," she said.

Petrovic was joined on the All-Tournament Team by team-mate Jelena Milovanovic, Anna Carbo (Spain), Katerina Elhotova (Czech Republic) and Frida Eldebrink (Sweden).
