Rexroth, Defense Help Germany Take Down Bulgaria

Germany’s defense and the play of Anna-Lisa Rexroth were keys a 70-50 win over Bulgaria in the TERMOSTEPS U16 European Championship Women Division B in Finland.

Rexroth, who is averaging 16 ppg, had another sounds performance with 17 points, four assists and two steals.

With Bulgaria still within striking distance to start the fourth quarter, Germany stepped up their defense and limited the Bulgaria to just three points over a stretch of 7:30.

As a result, they to opened up a commanding 25-point lead with just over two minutes remaining in the game.

Germany started the game on a 14-4 run, but Bulgaria responded and got to within 20-14 by the end of the quarter.

The Germans built their lead back up to 10 at halftime, 37-27, and 17 after three quarters, before their suffocating defense ultimately did in Bulgaria in the fourth.
