Spain's basketball president Jose Luis Saez is over the moon with the success achieved by both the men and women's Under-16 national team`s in recent championships.
Nete Bohigas' young men beat Lithuania 70-63 on Sunday in the bronze medal game of the Under-16 Eurobasket in Leon to give Spain their ninth medal in the history of the tournament.
"I am really proud of them," Saez told the federation's official website, www.feb.es.
"Basketball's youth programme is proving why we are at the highest level in Europe and this is the credit of the clubs, the regional federations, the coaches and the players.
"We also have to thank those that have made this tournament a success.
"FIBA Europe know that Spain will always be open to organise tournaments of all categories with an absolute guarantee of success."
Only a week ago the Under-16 women's national team, guided by Carlos Colinas, earned a 74-65 victory over France in Poland to defend their European Championship title.
"We should be extremely satisfied to be among the European elite," Saez continued.
"Our youth teams have given us two great joys this summer."
And this is just the beginning, according to the Federation's sporting director Angel Palmi.
"These medals prove that this generation will give us much joy in the years to come," he said.
"They are two groups who know how to compete and that is crucial in order to achieve any sporting aim."
