Rancik Included In Slovakia Squad

Slovakia coach Lubos Urban has included forward Martin Rancik in his squad for the three upcoming EuroBasket qualifiers.

The Slovaks face Switzerland on Saturday in Bratislava and Malta on Wednesday in Levice, but the key game is likely to be the match-up against the Republic of Ireland in a week's time.

Urban's squad is composed entirely of players who ply their trade outside their home nation.

Rancik, now with Olympiacos in Greece, had been a doubt after the player voiced concerns about the condition of his heart earlier in the summer.

Having included him, Urban warned that the player would be used sparingly, and he plans only to use him in Dublin.

"We have an experienced team which has been together three years and we will be much stronger with Martin Rancik, but he will play in Ireland only" Urban said.

"I am satisfied with our defence and offence on the perimeter but we need to be much better under the basket and increase our effectiveness with free throws as well."

Urban highlighted the importance of putting more points on the board against Switzerland in order for his side to have some breathing space before facing Ireland.

"Our preparation for these games is mostly towards Switzerland in Bratislava. Switzerland could be a very important part of qualification when everything is concentrated on a fight between Ireland and Slovakia," he said.

"Switzerland is third just behind us and it is not an easy opponent. We have to focus on the game against Switzerland now. We have to win and that should be a good stepping-stone before another two games.

"We won 73-56 in Lausanne, but Switzerland should be stronger in Bratislava."
