Alexander Volkov has been elected as the new president of Ukraine's basketball federation.
Volkov, a forward who played for the Soviet Union and captured gold at the Korea Olympics 19 years ago, would go on to become one of the movers and shakers in Ukraine basketball after retiring as a player.
He has been heavily involved in the club game and is a founder of BC Kyiv.
Volkov had been serving as vice-president of the Ukraine federation before winning the top job and replacing Zurab Khromaev.
Meanwhile, Halyna Melnychenko has become the first woman to win election as the federation's secretary general.
As a player, Melnychenko was a European champion with the USSR.
The Ukrainian senior men and women are still in the running for the final spots at this year's EuroBaskets.
They will both compete in extra qualifying with the men facing Denmark, Israel and Belgium and the women taking on Sweden and Slovakia.
