|Astou Ndour was in a class of her own all-tournament long as failed to come up against an equal in the paint|
Only minutes after helping Spain to their third consecutive title at the U20 European Championship Women, Astou Ndour was voted as tournament MVP and consequently earned a spot on the All Tournament team.
The MVP award comes as a cherry on top for Ndour, following a series of dominant performances in Samsun, making it a week and a tournament to remember for the Senegal-born center.
Ndour was on her game from the opening night when she got her campaign going with 23 points in as many minutes against Poland. Despite often playing limited minutes due to Spain's domination throughout the tournament, Ndour proceeded to post double-digit scoring numbers in eight of nine games, also grabbing three double-doubles.
No performance was more significant, however, than her 24-point and 19-rebound outing in the semi-finals against the host nation Turkey. She finished the tournament as the leading scorer averaging 17.3 points-a-night, a team-high 9.8 boards, and is ranked in the Top 10 of more than a dozen other categories, including two-point and free throw percentages, as well as blocked shots.
Ndour is joined on the all-tournament team by Turkey's Olcay Cakir, Italian Francesca Dotto, Artemis Spanou of Greece and Inmaculada Zanoguera of Spain.
Playmaker Olcay Cakir orchestrated Turkey's run to the bronze medal, leading the host nation with 10.1 points and 2.8 assists.
In Italy's historic silver-medal run, things started with guard Francesca Dotto who fuelled Italy to a seven-game win streak that got them to the finals, leading the tournamet in steals with 3.1, and being the top Italian scorer with 12.6 a night.
Do-it-all forward Inmaculada Zanoguera of Spain was the team's leader in assists (3.2), steals (1.9) and minutes played (27.2), and second only to Ndour in points (9.8) and rebounds (5.8)
Rounding out the all-tournament team is forward Artemis Spanou of Greece, who finished the competition ranked as the second leading scorer 16.9 points and 10.9 rebounds.
