Nicolo Melli is one more player looking for his EuroBasket debut. At 22, Emporio Armani's power forward has already lived two careers. After injuries affected his "baby boomer" status (his first presence on a Serie A squad was before his 14th birthday), Melli was able to adjust and turn into a hard-nosed defensive player. Using his athletic skills, inherited from his mother Julie Vollertsen (a former Olympic silver medallist in volleyball with the USA), Melli is able to provide energy, rebounds, an aggressive attitude and good defence. His Euroleague tenure makes him an expert player, too, and Melli was one of the main reasons for Italy's silver medal at the U20 European Championship 2011. Now he looks ready to contribute to the senior national team too, and if his perimeter shot gets more reliable, Melli will be able to step up to play with the European basketball elite, imaging former European champion Giacomo Galanda.
