A former football talent who represented his country at U16 level, Aleksa Popovic changed the football pitch for hardwood after a growth spurt and upon the advice of his brother. The decision paid off, as Popovic, a modest hard worker on and off the court, made his way to the top, being named 2012 Montenegro Basketball Player of the Year. The stat lines of the wing might not read spectacular, but the 26-year-old fulfils his role, helping Buducnost Podgorica to yet another national title and the Eurocup quarter-finals earlier this year. His attitude incorporates the team spirit that surrounded Montenegro last summer and led to the team qualifying for EuroBasket in an undefeated manner, with his name now looking like a good fit for the Final Round roster.
