Team 2010-11: Paris-Levallois (France - Pro A) Career: Paris-Levallois (France-Pro A, 2005-11), BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque (France-Pro A, 2011)
Andrew Albicy is the biggest surprise on the French roster this summer. Born and raised in Paris, Andrew has grown up in the youth teams of Paris Basket Racing (now Paris-Levallois). He is a short but lightning quick point guard capable of putting incredible pressure on the ball. He has had a decent first season in Pro A in 2009-10, although nothing fancy at 4.5 points and 3.6 assists per game, playing behind Jimmal Ball. But as Antoine Diot, who blossomed at EuroBasket 2009 right after a great performance at the U20 European Championship, Albicy was called in early August 2010 to replace Beaubois after being named MVP of the same U20 tournament. In Croatia, earlier in July, Andrew surprised European basketball observers, averaging 12.3 points and 5.9 assists per game while being the offensive and defensive leader of a French team who went all the way to the Gold medal. With the seniors, Andrew had a great opening game in the FIBA World Championship, driving Ricky Rubio crazy on defence while France upset Spain. Andrew confirmed his potential last season with Paris-Levallois, averaging 11.1 points and 4.5 assists in the French league, before moving to Gravelines this summer. |
