When looking at the Orange Lion's preliminary squad, determining the star player is a relatively easy task. The only Dutch player to play in one of the top leagues in Europe, Norel is coming off a solid season with CAI Zaragoza in the Liga Endesa, falling just short of a spot in the play-offs. His seven points and five rebounds however are not as important as another number: 34. This is the number of games the center played in 2014/15, meaning he played in every single game of the regular season. After two severe knee injuries, one could think, Norel might not be too keen on trading a summer of rest against a demanding tournament. But the big man has immediately expressed his desire to help the team, stating it might not necessarily be better with him, but more experienced. With free agency and a minor injury to consider, coach van Helfteren allowed Norel to sit out the first three weeks of preparation. If at full strength, the long frame of Norel and his experience going up against the best big men in Europe will be invaluable.
