Nikita Kurbanov's international career is somewhat surprising. He was named the MVP of the U20 European Championship in 2005 when the Russian team, under Evgeny Pashutin, won the trophy at home in the Moscow region. Kurbanov was obviously one of the most promising guys on the team but the transfer into senior basketball was not easy for him. He made Russia's final cut for EuroBasket 2009 but has not featured on the international stage since. This time Kurbanov is expected to be one of the key figures for the Russian national team. Nikita can play both forward positions and is happy doing all the dirty work. He had a decent season with Lokomotiv-Kuban where coach Sergey Bazarevich sometimes even used him to guard opposing point guards. Kurbanov will return to CSKA Moscow for the 2015-16 season.
