Cenk Akyol - EuroBasket 2011 Profile

Team 2010-11: Efes Pilsen (Turkey-TBL)

Career: Efes Pilsen (Turkey-TBL, 2003-2007), Galatasaray Cafecrown (Turkey-TBL, 2007-08), Efes Pilsen (Turkey-TBL, 2008-2009), Air Avellino (Italy-Lega, 2009-10), Efes Pilsen (Turkey-TBL, 2010-11)

Once labelled as a ‘wonder-kid' and seen as one of the big hopes of Turkish basketball, the supremely talented Cenk Ayol has not yet fulfilled his true potential and for sure has no chance of ever living up to the unfair and unrealistic hype placed on him as a teenager. He even went through a confidence crisis because of it and to his immense credit, he has come storming back thanks to a really productive spell in the Italian league with Air Avellino. Immediately after that renaissance period, he played an understated role in helping his country secure silver at the FIBA World Championships and last season he was back at Efes Pilsen once again. With renewed self-belief he could once again be an option off the bench. He is not the quickest of players but he does have good speed of thought and a decent shot which could prove fruitful as he prepares to experience his third EuroBasket Final Round.
