Born in north-eastern Italy, Hackett spent his childhood in California, where he played collegiately at USC - featuring three times in the NCAA Tournament. He made his senior Italy debut in 2007 against Croatia, the same summer when he helped the Young Azzurri to U20 European Championship bronze in Slovenia. He later featured at EuroBasket 2011 and again in the qualification campaign in 2012 before returning to the roster in 2015. Turning pro with Treviso in 2009, he won the Italian league and Cup with Siena in 2013 and was named MVP in the Finals of both, also making his Euroleague bow. Switching to Milan in 2014, he again claimed the league title and was MVP in their Supercoppa victory. Hackett signed for Panathinaikos in June 2015. He is the son of Rudy Hackett, an American-born forward who had spells with the NBA's New York Nets and Indiana Pacers before playing in the Italian league from 1979-1988 - he is now on the basketball staff at USC.
