Fan favourite Ewelina Kobryn has been a leader for Poland recently, and this role will be magnified in the absence of ‘Biba'. The center was one of the few bright spots during the team's disappointing EuroBasket Women 2009 campaign in Latvia putting in a consistent display throughout. Now she is the main supporting pillar for the team after continuing to emerge and enhance her reputation in Europe in the last couple of years. Her finishing and dominance of the defensive glass have catapulted her to EuroLeague Women All Star status this year having already been a perennial All Star in the Polish League. Kobryn also played at the Final Four in 2010 with Krakow and not surprisingly has always attracted interest from the WNBA, recently penning a deal with the New York Liberty. Even though she has just turned 29-years-old, her star and all-round influence at both club and National Team level is still rising. The captain of the team during EuroBasket Women 2009, Kobryn can continue to assert herself as the number one player on this Polish side. She will show leadership to the rest of the team with her usual approach of dominating in the paint and getting the job done with great efficiency. She will lead by example and it's as a safe bet that the 1.93m giant will lead from the front, and consistently produce good numbers during this tournament. |
