The ultimate versatile and team player, Boris Diaw can play every single position on the court but he occasionally has "absences" with many people believing he could become more selfish and assert more influence. The son of one of the greatest French women players in Elisabeth Riffiod and Senegalese high-jump champion Issa Diaw, he has always been there for the National Team. He has only ever missed one qualifying campaign, for EuroBasket 2009, because the Federation was not willing to pay a huge insurance fee, a fee he actually paid himself the previous summer. Not attracted by the spotlights, Boris became a very active president of JSA Bordeaux, a third division club he wishes to turn into a French league regular contender. He spent over a month this summer in the Southwest French city, working in the club's small offices and visiting local political leaders and even small companies to help create a future for the JSA. Something which speaks volumes for his character.
