| ||Ilona Burgrova is playing her third season in the EuroLeague Women with ZVVZ USK Prague. She has been representing the Czech Republic since she first stepped out as a cadette, in 1999. Ilona is writing for FIBAEurope.com to give us her insight into the 2011/2012 EuroLeague Women season. |
We have only three rounds of EuroLeague Women left before Christmas. Only four weeks till the Christmas vacations.
And as all players know, this might be one of the most critical times. Important games are coming up and we cannot lose focus from the games even though we might be already thinking about the presents to buy, the places we want to spend our vacation at, and the people we would love to see during the Christmas holidays.
So, how not to lose the focus? One day I was watching some sports related show (rugby, one of my favourite sports) and there was said that if you want to win, you (as a player) should spend five minutes per day thinking about it.
I found it very interesting. Of course we go through the opponent's plays and tactics during the practices, but it might not be enough.
I think it is very important to get prepared for the game not only physically but also mentally. Sit down and realize when do you play, who you play against, what players are on the team, what is going to be your role in this game, and most importantly imagine yourself winning the game.
This last part is very important especially if your team is an underdog. Our minds are very powerful. If you believe you can achieve almost anything!!! Don't forget that the body does what the mind tells it to do :)
I know it sounds easy to do. Five minutes is not a lot of time. But just try to stop and pause your life during the day.
It is not easy at all. We all are busy during the day.......rush in the morning, busy at work, occupied in the afternoon, and completely exhausted in the evening.
It is hard to pause and find at least five minutes for yourself. But try it!! You don't have to think about the game like we do. Just pause and think.....think about yourself;)
