Beretta Famila Schio have signed veteran Ivana Jalcova for the remainder of the campaign. The Italians wanted to add depth to their roster following a season-ending shoulder injury to national team point guard Chiara Pastore. Jalcova, a former player at Good Angels Kosice, spent the first part of the season with Lotos Gdynia and averaged 7.5 points, three rebounds and 3.1 assists in her 14 Round 1 contests with the Polish club. She will attempt to help Schio in their EuroLeague Women Round 2 tie with defending champions Perfumerias Avenida, with Game 1 on 21 February in Salamanca, Spain. "It has been an arduous task but one needed after the injury to Chiara Pastore that should undergo a shoulder operation," said Schio general director Paolo De Angelis. "We wish Chiara the best of luck. She will be with us again next season. "We were in need of a playmaker of quality for the numerous important games we have ahead of us and it wasn't easy to find an adequate solution in such a short space of time at this point of the season. "We were following Jalcova for a while. Now our coaching staff will have several solutions to choose from for the national and EuroLeague competitions." Jalcova, a Slovakia international, is a 28-year-old shooting guard. |
