Anete Jekabsone - EuroBasket Women 2015 Profile

A bonafide mega star of the women's game in Europe and having already attained iconic status in her homeland, Jekabsone looks set to end a six-year sabbatical and complete a formal u-turn, to play at one last Final Round - having previously announced her retirement. The last time she played at a major tournament was under Coach Zvirgzdins on home soil at EuroBasket Women 2009. She has a successful relationship with the play-caller for club and country, finding success with a EuroCup Women title at Dynamo Moscow, in a year which she earned the FIBA Europe Women's Player of the Year crown. Regularly the top scorer and contributor for her nation, she was the driving force behind reaching the semi-finals of EuroBasket Women 2007 and an Olympic appearance a year later. The daughter of former Latvian basketball star, Andris Jekabsons, who won a silver medal at the 1986 FIBA World Championship with USSR, the veteran guard was always destined for success. She has outstanding passing skills and a devastating three-point shot which can take any game away from any team. Most recently she has enjoyed a renaissance with Dynamo Kursk, playing a major role in taking them to their maiden EuroLeague Women Final Four.
