Career: Siauliai (Lithuania-LKL. 1995-97). Zalgiris Kaunas (Lithuania-LKL. 1997-2000). Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia-1st Div. 2000-01). Montepaschi Siena (Italy-Lega. 2001-…).
Lithuania’s most experienced player – he started some nine years ago, at the Atlanta Olympics – is also one of the most useful. The statistics do not tell everything and Zukauskas – who has no family link with center Eurelijus – can not only score on occasion but is also a perfect role player. His size, his tenacious defense, his versatility enable him to play both forward spots, as well as a guard. European coaches noticed that and Zukauskas has enjoyed a successful international career since 2000, in Slovenia first, and then in Siena, where he won the Italian championship in 2004. He also won the Saporta Cup in 2002, and made the Euroleague Final Four in 2003 and 2004. The absence of Jasikevicius and Stombergas means he needs to take on a leadership role. |
