Slanina is another player returning to the National Team after some years off.  Following eight seasons in his homeland, Donatas moved to Spain in the summer of 2002 and exploded at Sevilla where he averaged 18.1 points per game in his rookie season. Those kinds of numbers earned Slanina a spot on that 2003 "Dream Squad" in which Lithuanian brought European gold home from Sweden. The next year he made the team for the Olympics but played only limited minutes in Athens which led to the shooting guard’s unwillingness to play in future events.  As a result, Slanina was left out of the roster for the last EuroBasket and the 2006 FIBA World Championship. Apparently, new coach Ramunas Butautas is ready for Donatas to suit up again. Once a deadly shooter (he won the long-distance shoot-out in the 2001 Lithuanian League), Slanina is a threat from behind the arch, evidenced by his 33 shooting percentage from long-range in the Euroleague this season while playing for Sopot.
