Team 2010-11: CSKA Moscow (Russia-PBL)
Career: Krka Novo Mesto (Slovenia-1A, 1994-00), Virtus Bologna (Italy-Lega A, 2000-03), Climamio Bologna (Italy-Lega A, 2003-05), CSKA Moscow (Russia-PBL, 2005-11)
Matjaz Smodis is another of Slovenia's veteran stars, who has tasted success with CSKA Moscow in both the Russian league and also in Euroleague. A solid offensive threat that can shoot the three-ball and score inside, he also reads the game excellently on the offensive end. He has quick footwork and runs well off the ball. This often leads to easy scores or even open shots for his colleagues. Injuries have caused havoc in recent times and getting healthy and playing minutes has been the biggest challenge more recently in his illustrious career. However if he is firing on all cylinders, Smodis will provide great experience, intensity and of course has the winning mentality required at the top level to be a potential game changer for Slovenia.
