Aleksey Savrasenko

Career: Olympiakos Piraeus (Greece-ESAKE, 1996-2000), Peristeri Athens (Greece-ESAKE, 2000-01), Olympiakos Piraeus (Greece-ESAKE, 2001-2002), CSKA Moscow (Russia-Superleague, 2002-07)

He may be a little bit mechanical and not so quick, but Alexei Savrasenko has been steadily progressing into one of the best defensive centers in Europe.  At Piraeus he was known as Amanatidis – the name he received after becoming a Greek citizen at a very young age. “When Greek meets Greek then comes the tug of war“. This proverb took on a whole new meaning after a series of classic duels between two Godzillas in the paint - Savrasenko and Lazaros Papadopoulos of Dynamo Moscow.
